Details A watching brief was carried out by Stuart Farrell in June 2021 during groundworks for drainage in the north side of the Anderson's Primary School grounds (NJ05NW0238). Two large quarry scoops dating to the late 18th or very early 19th century, possibly for the quarrying of natural sand, and two small pits were revealed, one containing a large piece of iron slag. Monitoring of the drainage channels revealed the area heavily disturbed by existing services dating to the late 19th century and later. Subsequent post-excavation work revealed one of the pits dated to the late medieval period, with the other containing a deposit of burnt peat.
