Details The Clavie is a stone pillar situated on the Dorrie Hill (all that survives of the fort rampart). It is associated with old Hogmanay celebrations of 11 January 'burning of the Clavie', when a burning tar barrel is carried from the southwest extremity of village to the Clavie and set into it. It is carried by a crew of 11 men charged with cleansing the community of evil spirits. Its origins are unknown.
