Details The Home farm of Wester Elchies house (NJ24SE0024) is depicted on the OS map of 1846 as a U-shaped steading with open court to the east with two buildings to the east of the southern range. Two mill ponds lie to the northeast with a building beside them which is probably the mill. By the OS map edition of 1888 the original steading has gone and a new steading has been built to the southeast of the original. It is almost rectangular in plan with a central open court. An entrance to the court lies in the centre of the south side. A small range extends north from the centre of the northern range. An L-shaped building lies to the north of this with main orientation north-south, and a further L-shaped building to the northwest. The mill dam and mill are still evident. On present maps of 2006 the court has been built over and the L-shaped building to the north has now gone. The mill dam appears to be infilled although the area is still delineated. The mill building is also still present.
