Details Class II Pictish stone which stands in St Finnan's churchyard (at NJ4365 0682). A roughly pointed pillar of gneiss, it is inscribed on front with a cross and, in the angles of the cross, symbols including a man on horseback, double-disc and Z-Rod, horse-shoe and V-Rod and shears. Knotwork or plait work of cross is irregular without any margin round outline of cross. There are six curious projections shaped like the handle of a key, two at corners of end of top arm of cross and four in angles between arms. On the west face of the slab there is another representation of a horseman. Also from this site is an early medieval grave-marker with incised cross within a circle, and other curvilinear marks evident. It is, now in Cromar parish church, Tarland. The original church on this site was dedicated to St Finnan (or Finan / Finian / Finnian). The present church dates from around 1770.
