The remains of a fermtoun and adjacent abandoned 19th-century farmstead of Bogs, recorded by RCAHMS survey 1998/1999. The 19th-century buildings, all of which are depicted as roofed on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map (1870), cluster at the south end of the fermtoun, and, although roofless, are distinguished by their better state of preservation. The southeast-facing, one-and-a-half storey farmhouse stands to wall-head height, while the L-plan range lying immediately to the west-southwest is more ruinous. A horse-engine platform can be seen at its west-southwest end, and immediately to the northwest what may have been a small shed appears to have been formed from an earlier structure. A further 19th-century building lies 75m north of the farmhouse, on the northwest extremity of the fermtoun, but in its general appearance it is indistinguishable from the earlier buildings. It is of a single compartment and measures 16m from northeast to southwest by 4.8m transversely over stone wall-footings. Twelve earlier buildings do not appear on the OS 1st edition map, whilst a thirteenth is depicted as unroofed. They form a tight cluster, and have been reduced to little more than their stone wall-footings, several incorporating massive blocks in their construction. There is an even distribution of sizes from 8m up to 19m in overall length.
