Details A small Laird's house or castle of the late 16th and 18th Century. The tower, which bears the date 1594 over the doorway, is now 3-storeys high, and has a large circular stair tower with tiny slit windows and square slot-hole type apertures. The inscription over the door reads 'FROM OVR EMEMIES DEFENDE VSOCHRIST 1594 '. The main 18th Century extension is on the North side, and is harled and has been renovated. The ground floor and hall are vaulted. A notable feature is the massive projecting and stepped chimney-stack although the fireplace for this has unfortunately been built-up internally. The vaulted basement has three stone bosses dependant from the vault, carved with the arms of Gordon, Fraser and Campbell. To the northeast of the castle is a walled garden and to the southeast further gardens surrounded by a tree belt, and which contains a dovecot (NJ44NE0008). To the west is a farmsteading with millpond further to the southwest.
