Details Former stables, dated 'IL 1754' with a concentric addition dated 1901. They are set at the north-eastern corner of the walled garden (NJ52NW0131) within Leith Hall designed landscape (NJ52NW0068). It is a curved block that an old estate plan suggests it was, or was intended to be, half of a 'round square' with a drive through the centre. A map drawn in 1758 shows the stables as a mirrored pair of arcs one either side of the road, although this map seems to be a design layout rather than completed project as some elements shown on the plan appear never to have been built. An estate map of 1797 shows only the existing west arc. The building is single-storey and loft and is harled with margins, segmentally arched and keystoned doorpieces, a piend roof and a cobbled area in front. A watching brief was carried out by Murray Archaeological Services in June 2022 during creation of a new drain across the roadside frontage of the stable, but no archaeological features or artefacts were evident.
