The 1st edition depicts the academy as a rectangular building, now part of Academy House, with outbuildings to west and south and a garden to the south. By the time of the 2nd edition this had been extended by a wing and other additions to the north, and is now annotated Academy House, whilst a new Academy building has been built to the east across the road. there are outbuildings to the west and north. This is now Fordyce Primary School. The East wing of Academy House (category C Listed) dates from the later 19th century and is a 2-storey, 5-bay wing projecting from the rear of Academy House and forming a separate dwelling. Built of rubble with tooled ashlar margins, it has an off centre entrance with square single storey porch. The first floor windows break the wallhead as gabled dormers. The frontage is enclosed by a low coped rubble wall. 'The School of Fordye' was founded in 1678 with an endowment from Walter Ogilvie of Reidhyth and was located in various premises in the village before settling into its Victorian building in 1882. Photographic recording was carried out in 2023 ahead of proposed alterations.
