Details A restored Z-plan towerhouse with the remains of a barmekin wall, including the gatehouse. Built in 1601 for the Leiths of Harthill, it has tall main block, four storey and garret in height with a square tower projecting to the northeast and a round tower to the southwest. There are corner turrets at the angles with dressed quoins. The towerhouse is well-provided with gun-loops. The entrance in the main re-entrant angle has a moulded doorway with deep socket for draw-bar, an empty panel space above. There is a vaulted basement, ornate gun-loops to guardroom, dome-vaulted cellar in foot of round tower, large arched fireplace in kitchen with its own shot-hole, and stone sink and drain. The castle was surrounded by a ditch of which there is no trace. Was a ruin but now fully restored.
