Details Remains of a croft depicted on OS 1st edition map as a building with attached garden enclosure and cleared fields within an area of woodland. The building appears roofless on the 2nd edition map. RCAHMS site visit in the 1990s recorded the remains of the cottage which survives as low walls standing up to 1.2m. A second small building lay to the west but had been reduced to heaps of rubble. It was one of a number of cottages and crofts that were established on the Colony of Bennachie in the early 19th century, established on 'commonty' land shared between nine estates. It is named Burnside on an 1857 plan of the common land. Survey of the remains (Burnside) was carried out 2009-10 as part of the Bennachie Landscapes project. Soil mapping ands sampling has also been carried out as part of the project providing evidence for soil improvement methods.
