Mount Carmel, a possible motte surmounted by ruins of later stone buildings (possibly a summer-house). The mound or motte is said to have been built by monks). The ONB states that a chapel connected with a monastery stood here but this is unknown locally. The mound appears to be of artificial and made of earth but it is covered by thick undergrowth which makes detailed investigation difficult. At the base on the north side there are indistinct traces of a possible ditch separating the motte from a level area, interpreted as a possible bailey. However, this level area is bounded by natural slopes, which themselves would not form a good defence, and shows no signs of artificial scarping. Last assessed in the 1960s.
