Details Dovecot, hexagonal-shaped, erected in the mid 18th Century (1769) and surviving in a fair state of preservation. It stands on a hilltop above the Deveron valley and Duff House, as a folly and ornament to the landscape. The interior is circular with nesting boxes all round, reaching to roof height, and the unusual feature of a central column, providing 96 additional nesting boxes and structural support to the stone slab roof. It has a battlemented parapet with a 'cap' at each corner, probably added when the old Market Cross (NJ66SE0021) was erected on top of it in 1768 (removed in 1900). The dovecot is probably contemporary with Duff House. Until the 1980s the dovecote stood in an open field but is now surrounded by modern residential development.
