Farmstead, still in use, first depicted on Walker and Beattie's 'Plan of the Barony of Balquhain lying in the Parishes of Inverury and Chapel of Garioch and County of Aberdeen', surveyed in 1838. At this time, two buildings were shown as belonging to George Wood. These two buildings are also shown on the 1st edition OS map of 1869. By the 2nd edition OS map of 1901, a U-shaped steading, open to the south, had been added to the west. The buildings remain in use but have been further modified. The two eastern buildings have been joined together, and the west wing of the steading has been removed. A sales brochure of 1932 provides particulars of Yarrowhillock croft, including details of the farmhouse and the steading. The cottage comprised a kitchen, a pantry and three other rooms. Outside was a wood store, a fowl house, a workshop, an implement shed, a cart shed, an engine house and a shed for straw. At that time the size of the croft was about 23 acres (9.3ha).
