Details Memorial stone. It stood in the 19th Century at NJ 74569 24853, the site depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, but is now located at circa NJ 7470 2488. It is a large piece of whinstone which is said to mark the burial place of the female camp-followers who were slain at the Battle of Harlaw in 1411. It is said that at one time the memorial comprised two stones, and this may suggest an earlier origin for the standing stones. A test excavation (NJ72SW0085) was carried out to the south east in advance of development in the field adjacent to Liggar's Stane.
