Details Graveyard and site of old parish church. The church of Bethelnie was dedicated to 'St Nathlan' or Neachtan as one of three churches dedicated to St Nathalan after he returned from Rome in 7th century. It is said that here the Saint one averted a plague by going round the parish on his knees in intercessory prayer. Both here and at Tullich (NO39NE0002) a fair was kept in his memory, on the 8th January, until the beginning of the 19th century. It was the old parish church until transferred to Meldrum in 17th century. Nothing remains of the church in a disused graveyard. The site of the church is now occupied by a small mid 19th century mausoleum. A plaque above the entrance states that 'beneath this building rest the remains of many generations of Meldrums, Setons and Urquharts of Meldrum AD1236 to 1863'.
