Details A watching brief was carried out by MAS in August 2014 during topsoil stripping of a 5m wide trench for underground cable installation across a field containing cropmarks of possible ring ditches (NJ75SW0021). On the south side of the trench at circa NJ7190951942 was a 12m long dark patch of soil, roughly semi-circular in shape, extending a maximum 1.7m into the trench. This was thought to represent a section of the outer circumference of the most northerly of the two ring ditches visible on aerial photographs. No finds were evident on the surface. As this feature would not be disturbed by the cut for laying the cable (on the north side of the trench stripped) no further investigation was carried out. No other archaeological features or artefacts were observed along the rest of the cable trench.
