Details Site of a signal box. Culter was one of the original stations on the Deeside Line when it opened in 1853. A building is shown at this location on the OS 1st edition map. However the construction date for the signal box has been recorded in the 'Register of Scottish Signal boxes' as 1892, the same year that the second track for the Suburban Railway service to lower Deeside opened. At Culter there was a long siding running north from an east facing junction to the paper mills. The line was double track from here to Aberdeen. The signal box at Culter was of timber construction from ground level, with solid corner posts. It had cement rendering below the floor level. The gable roof was flush with the sides and there were four-pane windows.
