House and gardens depicted on historic OS maps. The house was designed by William Henderson possibly in 1853, with alterations and additions by J Russel Mackenzie. It is two-storey, harled with margins, with a three-storey tower. It has faintly Jacobean treatment, with a Regency style verandah porch on the west front. It was acquired in 1857 by George Thompson of Aberdeen White Star Line. The gardens are depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. The 1st edition shows a T-plan building (now Gardeners Cottage) to the southeast of the house and a bowling green to the west. Further west is an L-plan range (NJ81SE0219). A walled garden stands some distance to the southwest. The bowling green is no longer annotated on the 2nd edition map which shows a fountain to the northeast of the house and a lodge at the east entrance to the estate. There are several footbridges within the grounds - NJ81SE0287, NJ81SE0285, NJ81SE0283). To the northeast of the house is the Home Farm (NJ81SE0491).
