An archaeological evaluation and metal detecting survey was carried out in March and April 2017 by Cameron Archaeology prior to proposed development. The metal detecting survey prior to the evaluation recovered only very modern finds. A total of nine trenches were then excavated, covering 5 percent of the proposed development site. There were no features or deposits of archaeological significance recorded during the evaluation, however metal detecting the spoil heaps recovered various 18th century or later artefacts, including buckles, coins, buttons, a brooch and various miscellaneous agricultural materials. Nothing relating to the Battle of Barra (NJ72NE0004) was identified.
