Details Historic core of the village of New Deer. Laid out as a planned village by the Gordons of Cairnbanno from circa 1805, expanding on the earlier and much smaller settlement of Kirkton of New Deer. Defence of Scotland project recorded a number of World War II road blocks within the village. Also a Home Guard command post on Brae Head, machine gun emplacement, Home Guard HQ and use of the hotel hall as a Home Guard drill hall.
