Jetty depicted on the OS 2nd edition map. Building recording was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in July 2012 ahead of truncation of the jetty as part of Aberdeen harbour improvements. Skate's nose is a stone and concrete jetty with flashing red and green light in a small semi-circular cast iron tower, with modern electric unit and protective cap. Gordon's map of 1661 shows boats moored in the location of the jetty in an area called The Raich. The name derives from the original form, shown on the OS 1st edition map, which is a rounded protuberance at the north east end of the south pier. The present structure was built in 1877, and an inscribed stone is recorded as having been taken from the east end of the old South Pier and embedded in the new structure.
