Site of a World War II heavy anti-aircraft gun battery. It is visible on RAF aerial photographs taken in 1945, situated on the esplanade immediately northeast of the Beach Ballroom. The battery had four square emplacements with a command centre, and the remains of an accommodation camp are also visible on the photographs, to the west of the esplanade. Built possibly in 1940, it originally had 4 3.7inch mobile AA guns and two Lewis guns. The battery was recorded as unarmed in November 1943.
