Details Quarry, now disused, which was the source for most of the granite for the building of Victorian Aberdeen It opened in 1741, and was used extensively for buildings in Aberdeen and also widely exported. The quarry is 500 feet deep (circa 150m). The OS 1st edition map shows an engine house to the southern end of the site, also a flagstaff.. Several cranes are shown within the quarry on the OS 2nd edition map, by which time the earlier engine house had been removed and another built on the north side of the quarry. The quarry closed in 1971.
