House, built in 1839 in Grecian style, designed by Archibald Simpson. It is of unusual construction, of stuccoed brick (rather than granite) on a granite plinth, with grey slate roof with lead ridges, coped stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. The principal, West, elevation has a pedimented tetrastyle porch advanced to the centre with Tuscan columns, on four stone steps. There is a bow front to the South with the later addition of a cast-iron Victorian verandah oversailing the ground floor. Thistle capped iron railings enclose the basement to the north. The house was bought by the Town Council in 1901 and used as refreshment rooms for many years. It was later a day nursery. See NJ90NW1235 for grounds.
