Site of a port or gate. The cathedral precincts were enclosed by a high stone wall with four ports or gates. This was one of the four gates or ports that led to the Cathedral precinct of St. Machar in Old Aberdeen and considered the most important of the ports as it gave direct access to St. Machar Cathedral. It stood at the southwest end of the Chanonry, on Tillydrone Road west of the manses of Kinkell and Westhall. The Chanonry port was built sometime in the mid-15th century and had an effigy of the Virgin above it. There was Latin scripture carved in the gate that translated: 'Do not go this way without saying Hail Mary. You will find pardon by thus saluting Mary.' In addition, a tablet was fixed to the port, carved with a pot of lilies. It was demolished in circa 1725. The other three ports are NJ90NW0255 (Chaplain's Port), NJ90NW0288 (Cluny Port) and an unnamed port (NJ90NW0290).
