Church built in 1903 designed by A Marshall Mackenzie incorporating a window from the earlier Greyfriars Church to the northwest (see NJ90NW0040), depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, and which had been incorporated into Marischal College. it was demolished to make way for a new front to Marischal College. This new Greyfriars John Knox Church, as an integral part of Marischal College, is in Perpendicular Gothic style, with a nave, single aisle, and a large tall crocketed and finialled 3-stage tower with angled buttresses and a spire. It is built of grey Kemnay granite ashlar, with a grey slate roof and cast-iron rainwater goods. The East elevation has a large late 16th Century traceried window from the previous church. The carved timber choir stalls in the chancel may also have come from the earlier church. There is also stained glass by CE Kempe. Building survey and a watching brief on test pits was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in 2017. The survey confirmed that the church was built in one phase, the small hall at the southeast end being added at a later date. No archaeological features were observed in three test pits, all three appearing to consist of fills associated with the construction of the church.
