House built in 1813, extended by Archibald Simpson in 1840. Built of granite ashlar, rendered and painted, it is a 2-storey with basement Regency house, with piended grey slate roof with lead ridges, corniced ridge stacks with octagonal cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The North (entrance) elevation is symmetrical with a pedimented tetrastyle Greek Doric advanced central porch, the West and East elevation with 3 bowed bays, and the South elevation symmetrical with 3 bowed bays to the centre through ground and first floors with a trellis verandah advanced to the ground floor. Windows are predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case. There are low coped boundary walls with square-plan piers to the West with pyramidal caps and iron railings to the North. The house was reputed to have been built for William Black of Devanha Brewery. It was later altered by Simpson for the shipbuilding family of Blaikie, with the addition of the porch and curved ends. See NJ90SW0659 for grounds and walled garden.
