Details House depicted on historic OS maps. On the 1st edition it is named Bellevue. On the 2nd edition it is annotated as House of Bethany (Home for Destitute and Orphan Children). The property at 147 Hardgate was acquired in 1876 by the Community of St Mary and St John for use as an orphanage. The house was enlarged and a chapel added. The orphanage closed in 1954, the House of Bethany closed in 1980.
