Approximate site of the Battle of Justice Mills (or Battle of Aberdeen), fought on the 13th September 1644 between the attacking Royalist forces of the Marquis of Montrose met the defending Covenanter forces of Lord Burleigh. The Battle was centred around the Crab Stane (NJ90NW0369) on the hill at Justice Mills. the Hardgate, once the main road out of Aberdeen, forms the central spine of the battlefield with armies positioned at each end of it. The Covenanters were routed and Montrose's troops plundered the City.
