Hospital, designed by JB Nicol in 1927,and now part of a larger hospital complex. The move to this site was part of the Aberdeen Joint Hospitals Scheme which involved the development of an integrated medical complex comprising general hospital (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, originally at Woolmanhill NJ90NW0565), maternity hospital, children's hospital (Royal Aberdeen Hospital for Sick Children) nurses home and medical school buildings of Aberdeen University. The original buildings remain, although there has been significant post war expansion. The children's hospital, built on the pavilion system, was opened in January 1929 and extended in 1934. A new children's hospital was opened in 2003. The foundation stone of the Royal Infirmary was laid on 28 May 1928 and the hospital opened in 1936. The Maternity Hospital moved to the site in 1937, and in 1978 Accident and Emergency moved here from Woolmanhill.
