Details A watching brief was carried out by Robert Lenfert Archaeology between May and July 2021 during groundworks for renovation and expansion of the existing commercial offices. Although historical and geophysical evidence had indicated that the remains of a Medieval leper hospital (NJ90NW0016) and chapel (NJ90NW0046) once stood here, substantial amounts of modern overburden (circa 1.5m thick) now cover the area and no significant archaeological features or artefacts were observed. An intermittent layer of coal dust and ash encountered circa 1.5m below the modern surface probably represent modern dumped domestic material from the rear of the existing housing on King's Crescent.
