House, built in 1881 designed by John Bridgeford Pirie and Arthur Clyne. It was built on a site immediately west of a house named Viewbank, depicted on the OS 1st edition maps. The new house was initially also known as Viewbank, as annotated on the OS 2nd edition map. It is a 2-storey, 3-bay villa, the front with 2-storey bowed outer bays with conical, finialled roofs, the bays linked by a screen with balcony at first floor level. Built of granite, rock-faced at the battered plinth, with finely detailed masonry above. The house was on what was formerly part of the Estate of Pitfodels owned from the 16th to the 19th century by the Menzies family. The last Laird of Pitfodels died in 1805 and the estate was feued off in lots. The Viewbank House shown on the 1st edition map probably dates from that period. Within the grounds is a tower which was part of the original Viewbank house, and which was subject to building recording in 2008 (see NJ90SW0943) . A stone dated 1633 and 1692 was incorporated into the west face of the tower after Viewbank was demolished, but the origin of the stone is not known. The house is now part of the International School of Aberdeen.
