Details Memorial to the Gordon Highlanders, dated 1898, within Duthie Park (NJ90SW0989), commemorating losses during service in India 1892-8. It is a grey granite triangular obelisk on a tooled plinth which narrows to the obelisk. Each elevation bears the Gordon Highlanders crest, including their motto 'BYDAND', surmounted by grotesque masks. Originally a bronze angel holding a laurel wreath stood on top of the memorial but this is now missing. An inscription on the base reads: ERECTED BY THE 1ST BATTALION GORDON HIGHLANDERS IN MEMORY OF THE OFFICERS, NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEN WHO SW base: WERE KILLED OR DIED OF WOUNDS OR DISEASE DURING THEIR TOUR OF SERVICE IN INDIA FROM JANUARY 1892 TO NOVEMBER 1898 .
