Site of possible church and burial ground or motte, and cropmark. A circular mound, conical at its apex and traditionally a place of interment, was removed in 1964. It was initially thought to be the site of a church, but no evidence of a church or burial ground was noted. There may be some confusion with a mound at NJ 9288 6312 which stood in the immediate vicinity of the church circa 1 km to the west (see NJ96SW0024). When the site was removed in 1964 it was found to be 'forced earth' and artificial, but no remains were found. It was in fact probably a motte rather than a church site. It is interesting to note that in the 19th century Tyrie was recorded as having a 'mote-hill' near the parish church (Groome). Part of a rectilinear cropmark shows in the area indicated to the south-east of the farm.
