Details Episcopal church, built 1842-3, designed by William Hay who was born in Cruden in 1818. The present church, which replaced one built on the same site in 1765, is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd Edition maps as St James's Chapel. Built of pinned granite rubble, it was originally rectangular in plan, of 6-bays with buttresses, lancet windows and a tall slim west tower with gablets and pinnacled spire. The chancel was added in 1876, and is slightly narrower than the nave with an east end of three lancet windows. The interior is plain with glass by Wailes. There is an early font and a bell by J Taylor 1843. The church sits within a rectangular churchyard. A war memorial plaque was recorded by RCAHMS 2014: no further details. Within the churchyard are two Commonwealth war graves.
