Details Possible site of the wreck of the HMS ORMONDE. Wreckage was reported at this location in June 1975 by Decca Pipeline Survey, in position 57 23 43.5N, 001 41 31.0W. The ORMONDE (FY162) was requisitioned for war service in November 1939 as a minesweeper. In February 1940, she was returned to her owners. She was then re-requisitioned as minesweeper in September 1940, based at Aberdeen with the M/S Group 69. On the 16th February 1941, HMS ORMONDE, under the command of T/Lt. Philip Francis George Hamilton, RNVR, was attacked and sunk by German aircraft off Peterhead, 7 miles from Cruden Scar. Lt. Hamilton and nineteen of the crew were lost (see also NK13SE0006).
