Details Miniature mansion house and grounds still in use. Built circa 1800 and shown on the OS maps since the 1st edition. The house is of 2 storeys and basement. The west front has three windows with centre bay advance raised and pedimented with urns. The windows are architraved arched window at first floor, venetians at ground floor in outer bays, tripartites at first floor, harled with margins and quoin angles. The later porch encloses an architraved door-piece. The mansion has a piend roof, plain 2-window gables with massive chimneys and semi-elliptical stair tower at the centre of the east front. The walled garden, to the north-west of the mansion, is rectangular with bowed east wall. The wall is rubble-built and coped, with a small brick-lined hemicycle in the north wall. The gatepiers, with ball finials, are at the south-east gate beside the Lodge. There are three buildings to the immediate west of the walled garden, a C-shaped range and two smaller buildings, possibly farm buildings and offices. A Level 1 building survey was carried out in December 2006 by CFA Archaeology. Little is known about the origins of Sandford Lodge, when it was built, who its original owners were and the appearance of the original floor layout. Few original internal features of notable interest are visible within the building.
