Designed landscape of Airlie Castle (NO25SE0011), thought to be laid out between 1792 and 1803 when the castle was restored and extended. The gardens were embellished by the 5th Countess of Airlie in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and by the 7th Countess after the Second World War. The woodlands extend either side of the gorges of the River Isla and Melgam Water, comprising mixed deciduous woods of varying age, mainly established by the early 19th century although further planting was carried out om the later 19th century. A woodland walk led to the River Isla where the 12th Earl built a viewing platform. A mixed avenue of beech, sycamore and lime lines the main south drive. Walkover survey by GUARD Archaeology in 2021 ahead of proposed woodland creation included a small area (centred NO 28738 52275) within the designed landscape: one small clearance cairn was identified within this existing area of woodland (NO25SE0043).
