Memorial cairn built on site of memorial fountain, erected in honour of R.F. Scott and E.A. Wilson, South Pole Explorers. It stands beside the road between Mile Hill and Tulloch Hill, on the western side. The fountain was erected in 1919, an ornate design in terracotta, but was 'accidentally destroyed' in 1970, at which time it was replaced by the present cairn structure. Photographic survey of the cairn was carried out in 2012 prior to replacement of the cairn. Wilson and Scott planned some of the details of the expedition at the nearby Burnside Cottage (NO36SE0055).
