Remains of a settlement or farmstead. Not depicted on the 1st or 2nd edition OS maps, although on the current edition (2006), and from air photos, the footings of several small buildings and walled enclosures can be seen. Across the south of the site are traces of rig and furrow, running northeast-southwest. GUARD survey in 1999 recorded 18 features mostly surviving as low footings or banks. (a) A sub rectangular structure, 10m by 4m, divided into two compartments, the entrance leading down into a small yard, 4m by 8m. (b) A sub-rectangular structure, 7m by 4.5m, with rounded corners and ends, with a possible platform abutting it on the west side. (c) A sub-rectangular structure, 11m by 3.5m, in which two phases are evident. (d) A sub-rectangular structure, 11m by 3.5m, with entrance on the west and a revetment or platform along the west side. (f) A sub-rectangular structure, 8m by 4.5m, through which the burn runs. (g) A circular feature, 4m in diameter, set into the contour. (h) A sub-rectangular structure, 10m by 4,5m, divided into two with an entrance in each compartment. (i) A bank of boulders running from structure (f) and around (h) before turning west and running downhill for 80m. (j) a bank running east-northeast from structure (d). (k) a possible oval structure, 4m by 5m, with entrance on the west. (l) A length of bank, 16m long. (n) A small square structure, 4m by 4m. (0) an area of rig southwest of the settlement cluster, comprising at least six broad rigs 10m-12m across. There is also another area of rig higher up the slope. (p) a hollowed track running along the contour, and which appears to cut the rig (q) a dyke formed of massive boulders running west down slope, possibly defining the southern limit of the settlement. (r) a dyke of rough boulders, now fairly tumbled, running along the contour east of the settlement. (s) A semi-circular feature, 4.5m across, formed of an arc of large boulders, and an entrance on the west. Centred at NO35386395 is a rectangular enclosure, 11m by 9m, defined by turf covered stony banks with drystone walling above (although much tumbled). There is an entrance in the south. Walkover survey of the site was carried out by GUARD Archaeology in 2021 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO36SE0079). All 15 structures were visible but overgrown, the structures in two clusters. Measured survey by GUARD in August 2021 recorded seven individual structures and three drystone walls.
