Details Remains of a rifle range depicted on the OS 2nd edition map with two targets at the northwest end. it was constructed by the local Rifle Volunteer Corps established in the Braemar/Ballater area in the later 19th century. It also saw use by stalkers from neighbouring estates, and was apparently used in the Second World War by the Officer Training Corps and men of the Home Guard. Two metal Hythe pattern frames remain in situ in the butts. Defence of Britain Project also recorded two fallen wooden targets (NO39NE0025) of a World War II rifle range, although not clear if this a second range a little to the west.
