Site of a wooden bridge, depicted on the OS 1st edition map. This was the third of four bridges over the Dee. The first, a stone bridge designed by Telford was built in 1783 but which was destroyed by flooding in 1799. A second bridge designed by Telford, completed in 1809, was swept away in the 'Muckle Spate' of 1829. The wooden bridge was built in 1809, designed by Joseph Mitchell but probably based on a Telford design, was opened in 1834, and is depicted on the OS 1st edition map. It was replaced in the later 19th century by the adjacent Royal Bridge (NO39NE0009) built in 1885. Remnants of possible cutwaters are evident the river bed.
