Loomweights discovered circa 1870 by workmen while trenching and levelling a field at Ravensby for garden ground. At a spot where the sub-soil had been previously disturbed, to a depth of approximately 1 m, and mixed with charcoal and small bone fragments, were found 7 perforated clay loomweights. The space was described by the workmen as like a tent. Next to the weights was part of 'a small enclosure like a fire-place, formed by stones on edge'. Two of the loomweights and the largest fragment of bone (from an ox) were donated to the NMAS by James Walker of Ravensby in 1871.
