Site of a short cist. Discovered during ploughing in April 1984 and subsequently excavated by Sherriff. The plough had broken the capstone into two pieces, one 1.70 m long x 1.00m wide and 0.25 m thick. The in situ portion measured 1.70 m long x 1.09 m wide. The complete slab was approximately 1.75 m x 2.00 m. The cist was aligned east-west, constructed of sandstone slabs and measured internally 1.17 m long x 0.91 m wide and 0.74 m deep. The two end slabs were capped with horizontal slabs to raise their height to match the side slabs. The north-east corner had a gap plugged by three small slabs. The contents consisted of the disturbed and poorly preserved remains of an adult inhumation lying on a floor of laid small pebbles. The head lay to the south-east corner and faced west. Only a few portions of the damp bones were taken for analysis, the remainder were redeposited in the cist following the excavation. The inhumation was of an adult, probably over 25 years old. The pebbles, rounded and carefully laid, lay on the natural boulder clay and probably came from the material removed to dig the pit for the cist. The skeleton was an adult, probably male, aged about 25-30 years, of fairly slight build and about 5ft 6in tall. There was no evidence of cause of death or any pathological process or lesion.
