Site of a well and cobble pavement excavated by SUAT in 1986. The site lies on the west side of High Street just south of the junction with Applegate, and was excavated in January 1986 in advance of redevelopment. The ground sloped steeply down from east to west. At the east end, along the High Street, natural sand appeared on the surface. Further west was an early modern well, built of large round beach cobbles, unmortared, and an early modern cobble pavement. At the west end of the site was an old ground surface sealed by 1.4 m of hill-wash and garden soil. Finds included medieval pottery and tobacco pipes.
