Site of an urban excavation. This site lies on the west side of High Street and the north side of Applegate. It was excavated in January and February 1986 by SUAT Ltd. The ground sloped gently down from east-west. At the east and south end of the site, along High Street and Applegate, natural sand appeared on the surface. In the north part of the site natural sand was covered by a buried soil horizon and cut by a boundary ditch. The ditch fills contained white gritty ware and other medieval pottery. These were sealed by garden soil. West of these was a group of pits, medieval and modern.
