A section of human jaw containing four teeth was found in 2012, in the grounds of Aberluthnott Parish Church (NO66NE0286), where a tree that had stood for more than 40 years had been removed. The location is a short distance north of the old parish church graveyard (NO66NE0002). The remains were assessed by a Grampian Police pathologist, and described as possibly belonging to a female aged in her 20s. Wear pattern on the crown of the teeth suggested a pre-modern diet containing rough flour.
