Details Settlement. A small fishing village called Fishtown of Usan is depicted on the 1st edition OS map. It consisted of two rows of cottages, a school and a coastguard station. Now only a few cottages and the coastguard station survive. One row of ruined cottages incorporates a 19th century signal tower (NO75SW0011). Some of the site is used by the coastguard. Usan has one of the few remaining salmon netting fishing stations in Scotland.
