Former reservoir and filter house, part of the Montrose Water Works depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. The pumping station lay to the east (NO76SW0065). The 1st and 2nd edition show a single reservoir, the southern one of the two shown on current maps. Between the two reservoirs is the filter house, built in 1910 of red brick in Flemish Garden Wall bond with a slate roof. It was originally 7 bays in length and 3 bays wide, with segmental-arched window openings to north and south. Gable elevations to east and west have a decorative sawtooth design at the wallhead. The east gable has a dedication plaque inscribed 'MONTROSE WATERWORKS, FILTER HOUSE, ERECTED 1910, EXTENDED 1960, W.STONE, PROVOST. H.HA'. There is a prominent crenellated tower on the north side, with a tight iron spiral internal stair. Two further bays were added to the east end in 1960. The interior machinery was removed some time before 2010.
