A watching brief carried out by SUAT in April 2004 during groundworks for an electricity cable within the Roman camp (NO77NE0001) recorded a large cut feature 35m north-northeast of Kair House. the ditch appeared to contain the remains of an earth bank with a drystone facing. Further excavation into these features exposed a ditch circa 4.5m across and 1m deep, with a U-shaped profile, partially backfilled with random whinstone rubble. No artefacts were recovered. It was thought to be a ha-ha or sunken wall associoated with Kair House, but a sample from the ditch was radiocarbon dated to 1030 to 1250 AD suggesting the possibility of a medieval structure on the site.
